What If You Are Outside Canada And Your PR Card Expires?

A valid permanent resident Card is required to come back to Canada. However, If you are outside Canada and your PR Card expires, then you need to get a Permanent Resident Travel Document (PRTD) from a Visa Application Centre located in the country you presently visiting. An expired PR card will not get your entry into Canada. A valid PTRD allows the permanent resident to enter Canada and is only valid for a single entry. If you already know that your PR Card will expire soon, then it is wise to get your PR card renewed before travelling outside Canada.
