In our last blog, we discussed the Federal Skilled Worker Program (FSW) that helps just about anyone with qualifying credentials to immigrate to Canada as a foreigner. Another category under express entry is Canadian Experience Class. As the name suggests, this program is for people who are already in Canada with Canadian Experience.
What is Experience Class?
So what is the Canadian experience class program? Well, in simple words anyone with qualifying Canadian work experience can immigrate to Canada under Canadian Experience Class. While workers in Canada with Canadian work experience can qualify, however not everyone working in Canada can qualify under this category. There is a requirement of a specific occupational work that qualifies under this class.
CEC for International Students:
Canadian experience class is usually well suited for international students since they have the opportunity to study in Canada and can also acquire a work permit to work for any employer in Canada after their studies. The criteria to meet the requirements are pretty much the same as the federal skilled worker program. The only element that sets the CEC apart from FSW is Canadian work experience. Please read our detailed blog on the federal skilled worker program on our website to understand the requirements as they are similar to the Canadian experience class.
Therefore, we are not going to discuss all the requirements of CEC as they are similar to FSW. We only discuss the qualifying work experience under CEC in this brief article.
How to Qualify Under Canadian Experience Class?
To qualify under CEC, you must have gained one (1) year of work experience in the last three (3) years in Canada. The work must be either full time or an equal amount in part-time. Also, the work experience must fall a specific TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities). The qualifying TEER are 0,1,2 and 3. TEER codes that fall under 4 and 5 are not qualifying professions for Canadian experience class (CEC). Canadian work experience gained while you were a full-time student in Canada also does not count towards your CEC profile.
Please note that this program is not for people who are willing to settle in the province of Quebec. The province of Quebec selects its own skilled workers.
