Knowing the Canadian Experience Class(CEC) requirements will help you understand your options to secure permanent residence in Canada. Canadian experience class (CEC) allows permanent residence to foreign nationals who are already in Canada and have obtained valuable work experience in eligible occupations in Canada. As the name suggests, this program is for geared towards people who are already in Canada with Canadian work experience.
What is Canadian Experience Class and how the program works?
So what is the Canadian experience class program? Well, in simple words anyone with qualifying Canadian work experience can immigrate to Canada under Canadian Experience Class. While workers in Canada with Canadian work experience can qualify, not everyone working in Canada can qualify under this category. There is a requirement of a specific occupational work that qualifies under this class.
Canadian Experience Class for International Students:
Canadian experience class is usually well suited for international students since they had the opportunity to study in Canada and can also acquire a work permit after their studies. The criteria to meet the requirements are pretty much the same as the federal skilled worker program. The only element that sets the CEC apart from FSW is Canadian work experience. Please read our detailed blog on the Federal Skilled Worker program on our website to understand the requirements as they are similar to the Canadian experience class.
Therefore, we are not going to discuss all the requirements of CEC as they are similar to FSW. We only discuss the qualifying work experience under CEC in this brief article.
How to Qualify Under Canadian Experience Class?
To qualify under CEC, you have to have an active Express Entry profile in the pool of candidates. Also, you must have gained one (1) year of work experience in the last three (3) years in Canada. The work must be either full time or an equal amount in part-time. Also, the work experience must fall a specific TEER (Training, Education, Experience and Responsibilities).
Qualifying TEER Codes:
The qualifying TEER are 0,1,2 and 3. TEER codes that fall under 4 and 5 are not qualifying professions for Canadian experience class (CEC). Canadian work experience gained while you were a full-time student in Canada also does not count towards your CEC profile.
TEER | Occupation types | Examples |
---|---|---|
TEER 0 | Management occupations | Advertising, marketing and public relations managers Financial managers |
TEER 1 | Occupations that usually require a university degree | Financial advisors Software engineers |
TEER 2 | Occupations that usually require: *a college diploma *apprenticeship training of 2 or more years, or * supervisory occupations | Computer network and web technicians Medical laboratory technologists |
TEER 3 | Occupations that usually require: * a college diploma *apprenticeship training of less than 2 years, or * more than 6 months of on-the-job training | Bakers Dental assistants and dental laboratory assistants |
